# Product sets

With LanternWP Companion, a product set is products that go together: an outfit, a room, a desk, a kit, a routine. Each product keeps its own price and stock; a set has no price of its own. Shoppers see the set on the pages of its products and wherever you add the **Product Sets** block, choose the options the set leaves to them, uncheck what they already have, and add the rest to the cart with one button.

A set can have a photo. With one, each product the photo shows gets a numbered point on it, a shoppable image; a product the photo does not show, such as a cable, is in the list without a number. Without a photo, the set shows as a numbered list, in the order of its products: the steps of a routine.

## Make a set

1. Go to **Products → Product sets** and select **Add set**.
2. Give it a title, such as "The 27-inch home office" or "The morning routine". Shoppers see it above the products.
3. To show the set on a photo, select **Add a photo** and choose it from the media library. It shows at once beside the products.
4. In **Add a product…**, search for a product by its name or SKU and choose it. To show a color or a finish other than the product's default, choose that variation: the set pins the options a photo can show, such as its color.
5. With a photo, click the photo where it shows the product. A product the photo does not show stays in the list: select **Not on the photo**.
6. For each option on the product's card, choose a value to pin it, or **Shopper chooses** to leave it to the shopper. Set the quantity when the set holds more than one, such as four chairs.
7. Add the other products the same way, then select **Publish**.

Nothing needs saving on the way. To move a point, drag it, or select it and use the arrow keys; Shift moves it further. **Position** gives the point's place in numbers, and **Remove from photo** keeps the product in the list without a point. Drag a card by its grip, or use its arrows, to change the order: the order is the order of the points and of the list.

Above **Publish**, the set says what the store will do with it: on how many product pages it shows, which products are sold out, which are not on the photo, and when it is hidden.

## When a set shows

A set shows when at least 2 of its products can be added to the cart. With fewer, it is hidden, and **Products → Product sets** marks it **Hidden**. A sold-out product stays in the set, muted and out of the total; with [back-in-stock emails](notify-me.md) on, it links to its page, where shoppers ask for an email. A product you delete or hide from the catalog drops out of the set.

**Needs attention** in **Products → Product sets** lists the hidden sets and the sets with a sold-out product. The search there finds sets by their products' names too, and **Duplicate** under a set's title starts a copy of it.

## Show sets

- **On a product page**: the set the product is in shows in its own section before the related products, under "Complete the set", with the product's own row marked **This item**. Companion places the section for you in the **Single Product** template, and you can move the **Product Sets** block there like any block. To change the heading, go to **Appearance → Editor → Templates**, open **Single Product**, select the **Product Sets** block and edit **Heading** in its settings. A demo import puts the demo's own heading there, such as "Complete the look".
- **On a page**: insert the **Product Sets** block. In the **Content** tab of its settings, under **Sets**, search for a set in **Add a set** and select its **+**; add more the same way. Each chosen set has a menu (**⋮**) with **Move up**, **Move down** and **Remove**. A set that cannot show says why beside its title, such as a draft. In a section added from a pattern, such as the home page's sets, select the sets themselves to open the same tab, without **Edit pattern**. **Heading**, in the **Settings** tab, puts a heading over the sets; leave it empty when the page has its own.

Without a set chosen, the block shows the product's own set on a product page and your first two sets anywhere else. The first are the sets with the lowest **Order**: open a set and set its **Order** in the box of that name, such as 1 for the set to show first. Sets with the same order go newest first.

A product page shows one set. To choose it, open the product, go to **Product data → Product sets** and pick it under **Show first on this page**; **Automatic** shows a set with the product on its photo, then the newest. The same tab adds the product to a set with **Add to a set**, at the end of the set and without a point, and starts a new set with it with **New set with this product**.

On a photo, a point shows the product's name, its pinned options and its price when the pointer rests on it; a click on it leads to the product's row. On a phone, a tap opens the product in a sheet, with its options and a button that adds it alone. A set without a photo shows as a row of cards on a wide screen, scrolling sideways when it has more products than the row has columns, and as a list on a phone. With the [quick view](quick-view.md) on, a product's name opens its quick view instead of its page.

The button counts what the set holds and adds each product with its pinned options and the ones the shopper chose, then opens the cart. A value sold out with the pinned options cannot be chosen. A product the button cannot add, such as a grouped or an external product, links to its page instead. On a phone, the product page's sticky **Add to cart** bar steps aside while the set's button is on the screen.

The LanternWP home pattern **Product sets heading** is the heading of a section of sets; a demo import puts the demo's sets under it.

## Turn it off

1. Go to **Appearance → LanternWP → Features**.
2. In the **Product sets** row, turn the switch off and select **Save**.

Turned off, no set shows nowhere: Companion places its **Product Sets** block in no template, including templates you add later, and a **Product Sets** block already saved in a template or a page shows nothing in the store. In the Site Editor such a block says "Product sets is off." with a link to turn it on. Turn the switch on again to bring it back where it was. This includes a **Product Sets** block you placed on a page. Your sets stay in **Products → Product sets**.

## Remove it from one template

To keep it on but leave it out of one template, select the **Product Sets** block in that template in the Site Editor, open **Options** in its toolbar, choose **Delete** and select **Save**. The **Product sets** row in **Features** then says **Removed from templates** with the template's name. To bring it back there, select **Restore in templates** in that row, then **Restore in templates** again to confirm: Companion puts the block back in those templates and keeps your other changes to them.
